Tourist visas are issued to individuals who would like to sojourn in Namibia on holiday for a period not exceeding 90 days.

Business Visa

May be granted for up to 90 days

Allows you to attend meetings and conferences

Can be extended in Namibia

South African nationals may obtain this upon arrival
A Business visa allows the holder thereof to enter Namibia for professional activities such as meetings, research, conferences or visiting a subsidiary branch of the parent company.
These visas are granted for up to 90 days and may be extended for a further 3 months in country.

Short Term Work Visa

Issued for 48 hours

Valid for a single entry

Applications must be made prior to entering Namibia

Takes anything from 7 – 90 days to process
A Short-Term Work visa is designed for foreign workers to take up employment in Namibia on a temporary assignment of up to 6 months.
Applications should be made in your home country or country where you hold temporary residency and applicants should already be in possession of the visa before attempting to enter Namibia.

Long Term Work Visa

Granted for up to 3 years

Allows you to lawfully work

Valid for a period exceeding 6 months

Applications must be made prior to entering Namibia
A Long-Term Work visa is designed for foreign workers to take up employment in Namibia for a period of time that exceeds 6 months.
When submitting a Long-Term Work visa, it is essential to prove that the applicant possesses the required skills, qualifications and experience in their specific field.
Applications should be made in your home country or country where you hold temporary residency and applicants should already be in possession of the visa before attempting to enter Namibia.

- Proof that the vacancy was advertised in the Namibian Press
- Curriculum Vitae
Medical officers and Engineers have additional requirements.

Accompanying Spouse and Children

May accompany spouse or parent

Reside in Namibia on a temporary basis

Work is prohibited

Can be obtained in home country
This visa category allows the holders thereof to lawfully accompany your spouse while he/she is on work assignment in Namibia.
Please note that Namibia does not recognise life partners and thus, this visa may only be obtained if you are married.
This category may also be used for children who wish to accompany their parents.

Study Permit

Allows you to study in Namibia

Required prior to entering the country

These visas are only issued during a certain time of year

Work is prohibited
A study visa allows the holder to reside in Namibia whilst studying at a Namibian institution of primary, secondary or tertiary education.
To study in Namibia, the applicant must be accepted by a school or tertiary education provider in writing by providing a letter of acceptance which must be on the institution’s letterhead and signed by or on behalf of the registrar or principal.
The holder of a Namibia study permit and visa may not enter into any employment unless there is condition on the Namibia study permit and visa which relates to such employment.

Spousal Visa

Reside with Namibian spouse

Work is prohibited

Qualifies you for citizenship after 10 years

Life Partners are not recognised
Foreign nationals who are married to a Namibian citizen, may apply for a Spousal visa. The activities that one may conduct on this visa category are very limited as Spousal Visa holders may not lawfully conduct work.
The holder hereof may qualify for Namibian citizenship if they have been married to the Namibia for 10 years and if they have been residing in Namibia for 10 years.
Once a marriage has been in effect 10 years and the spouse has been in Namibia 10 years then citizenship can be applied for.

Investor’s Permit

Allows you to invest in a Namibian business

Holder may open a business in Namibia

Multi-step and complex process

Valid for 2 years
Those who are self-employed or intend to establish or invest in a Namibian Business may apply for an Investor’s permit.
The process for the Investor’s permit works in different stages and can be a lengthy and complex procedure.
These permits are often granted for a 2-year period however this is at the discretion of the Ministry of Home Affairs and exceptions can be made if a formal motivation is provided.
